Music Speaks

Celebrating and developing through music.
An inclusive grass roots community producing live music events and gigs.

The Johnny Alfrey Music Memorial Annual Festival 2025

Located at the beautiful location which is Hollingworth Lake on May 30th & 31st. The JAMM festival is an opportunity for our new bands to showcase their talents alongside some great headliners. It’s also a community event which involves all our young people working together using a huge range of skills to pull off an amazing all-day event and raising money that goes back into providing more opportunities for young artists, crew and techies at the Johnny Alfrey Music Memorial.

The JAMM Community

JAMM provides young people with rehearsal space, instruments, sound equipment and workshops to help develop their skills in a wide range of areas related to music and live events. We cover workshops for the whole music ecosystem from videography, stagecraft, performance, sound-tech and even compering.

Projects

We have different community projects on the go that are related to our values of being eco-friendly (recycling, reusing, making us a self-sufficient organisation to reduce our carbon footprint), and inclusive (Neurodiversity, LGBTQ, Men’s mental health, Representing females in the music industry). We are currently working on a project to build our own stage from repurposed materials with the help of our young members to design the finished look.

Stage 1

P

Mentoring

We want to inspire music lovers, enable young musicians, raise self-esteem and confidence in young performers and producers, and foster a sense of purpose and belonging in communities. In the summer of 2024 we ran a pilot scheme to involve young people with neurodiverse needs in collaborative music. For some, this was the first time they had expressed their musical talents in a group or band. We are now expanding this offer to schools and children’s services

Stage 2

Gigs and our Annual Festival

We hold gigs across the year at various venues in Greater Manchester to get the exposure for our new up and coming bands and artists. At the start of every summer we kick off festival season with a huge festival with well known headliners for our community of music-obsessed crew and musicians to create something fantastic in our local area. This is our time to celebrate what Johnny stood for and show case all the hard work our young members have put in to making a crowd-pulling show.

Our Vision

Our charity is dedicated to empowering young creators by providing them with the resources, mentorship, and opportunities they need to develop their skills and showcase their work. We foster a culture of inclusivity, creativity, and collaboration, offering mentoring, workshops and exposure on stage. By prioritizing mental well-being and celebrating diverse talent, we help young creators thrive, make meaningful contributions, and build sustainable careers.

The JAMM Room

Located between Littleborough and Todmorden, our acoustically enhanced rehearsal room offers musicians an inspiring, distraction-free space with an excellent bank of equipment. Perfect for solo practice or band rehearsals. It’s a serene spot where creativity can truly flourish.

Everything is for the cause…

As a not-for-profit community organisation, proceeds from tickets and donations all go back into providing bands and artists with the space to create and the platforms to perform

We hand-picked some our best projects

As a charitable organisation we’ve worked on a variety of projects to raise money and awareness for the Johnny Alfrey Music Memorial, including benefit concerts, crowdfunding campaigns, and community events. These initiatives have rallied support from local businesses, volunteers, and donors to make meaningful impact. Through these efforts, we’ve built a strong network of advocates and raised the visibility of his cause, in turn increasing our beneficiaries.

The Anglesey Half Marathon

Over 40 people gathered over a weekend in Anglesey in September 2024 to complete a half marathon to raise funds for JAMM. This money will be used to make our annual event for 2025 even bigger and better than before.

Our People

We have worked with several partners including Rockit Bolton, SET2It, Proscenium, Rochdale Council, Moorend Trust, Pennine Township Trust and The Ramp Bolton.

The Festivals

JAMM prides itself on attracting amazing headliners to sell more tickets so that our up and coming bands gain the exposure they deserve. All of our local new bands have their own original songs and we have even showcased two bands which have since been signed by record labels.

Up to Snowdon

Johnny’s dad Chris has organised two fundraisers, bringing family and friends together, in 2023 to climb Snowdon and in 2024 to complete a half marathon in Anglesey. In total we have raised over £6000.

Life is better when it brings people together.

Every year, we celebrate the impact of our work by organizing a lively music festival in our hometown, bringing together local artists, volunteers, and community members to showcase talent, foster connections, and raise awareness for our cause. We have been supported by some fantastic headliners including The Bluetones, I Am Kloot’s John Bramwell, Clint Boon of the Inspiral carpets and Jay McAllister, AKA Beans on Toast.
